Canned tomato sardine with hot, crusty French bread is very popular sandwich in Kampuchea Krom. Some people prefer sauté sliced yellow onion and sardine. But either heated or un-heated, sardine sandwich is very yummy. This recipe is for un-heated sardine.
To make this sandwich, you’ll need to make ahead carrot with daikon relish.
- Ingredients :
- ½ Sweet onion, peeled and sliced thin
- 2 Tablespoons white vinegar
- 2 Tablespoons water
- ½ Tablespoon sugar
- ¼ Teaspoon salt
- 2 Loaves( sandwich size) French bread
- 2 Canned sardine in tomato sauce
- Sliced hot chili pepper(option)
- Soy sauce
- Black pepper
- Procedures :
Pickle onion: Put sliced onion in a small bowl; add vinegar, water, sugar and salt, mix well and set it a side.
Pre-heat oven at 400 degrees. Slit French bread open, put one canned of sardine inside of each bread, then put bread inside oven for 3 minutes or till outside is crusty. Removed sandwiches from the oven, add chili pepper, pickle onion and carrot and daikon relish.
Sprinkles with some soy sauce and black pepper before serve.
