Back home, we reverses chicken braised with vegetables for special occasions such as wedding or family reunion. Traditionally, braised chicken must cook with 7 ingredients;
banana flowers , fungus mushroom , shiitake mush room , bean thread noodles , dried date, dried bean curd and spice.
Now you can get all 7 dried ingredients in a single package at most Asian markets.
Braised chicken with vegetables is absolute delicious recipe from Sino-Khmer Krom. This recipe is good for with duck, goose or bird also.
- Ingredients :
- 1 Package 6.oz Faychoy dried assorted vegetables
- 1 Whole chicken, cut up to large chunks.
- 2 Cloves garlic, minced
- 1 Tablespoon soy sauce
- ½ Teaspoon salt
- ¼ Teaspoon black pepper
- 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
- 6 Cups water
- 1 Yellow onion, sliced
- 2 Tablespoons fish sauce
- 1 Tablespoon sugar
- 2 Stalks green onion, chopped
- Procedures :
Open package of dried vegetables, take out the smallest package of spice and set a side. Separates each item, put it in separates bowls and soaks it with warm water, drained. Cut bean curd to 2 inches in length and banana flowers in half, set a side.
Put chicken meat in a large bowl, marinated chicken with garlic, soy sauce, salt and black pepper, set a side.
Pre-heat large a large soup pot or skillet.
When skillet is hot, add oil and chicken, cook till chicken meat turns light brown on both sides.
Add water, yellow onion and dried date, shiitake mushroom, dried fungi mushroom, banana flowers, bean curd and yellow onion , stirs and simmering till chicken tender.
Add bean threads noodles, stirs and cook till water bubbling.
Seasoning with fish sauce, sugar and green onion.
Server hot with Italian or French bread, or with rice.
