(Grilled corn)
Corn is one of the most popular ancient vegetables in Kampuchea Krom. Beside rice and noodles, corn also has an important “starch” role with our diet. We love corn, especially children, most kid’s eyes lit up with joy, when they see corn. I was one of kids that would eat corn before I eat rice. :)
Corn is everywhere, every country has unique way to grills corn, but Khmer favorite is grilled corn with sweet and salty green onion oil.
Back home, we have many street stands that sales grilled corn, because grilled corn is Khmer Krom great treats for snack and appetizer.
- Ingredients :
- ¼ Cup vegetable oil
- 2 Stalks green onion, chopped
- 2 Tablespoons sugar
- ½ Teaspoon salt
- 4 Fresh corn
- Procedures :
Pre-heat a small saucepan.
When saucepan is hot, add oil and onion, sauté green onion for few minutes then remove it from hot stove, add sugar and salt, stirs well and set a side.
Removed corn’s hush and all the silks of corn’s ears, washed and drained of excessive water.
Cook corn on hot grill till it golden.
Spreads onion oil over the corn before serve.
Serve hot.
Tip: For small children, it is better to boiled corn first then grilled.
