Summary of work: Researching the culture, religion, tradition, geography, history and language of Khmer Kampuchea Krom.

The following will be researched, edited and published:

- Background of Khmer Kampuchea Krom dignitaries from the past to present.

-Background of establishment of Khmer pagodas in Kampuchea Krom.

-Background of various area/region names in Kampuchea Krom territory.

-Research to compile the names of villages, communes, districts and provinces or municipalities in which Khmer existed within 21 Provinces/municipalities in Kampuchea Krom in which the Vietnamese authority changed the Khmer names to Vietnamese names and language.

-Recompile the Khmer Kampuchea Krom’s legend, which was lost several years a go.

A particular feature of this work is researching the culture, religion, tradition, geography, history and language of Khmer Kampuchea Krom which were destroyed or lost when Kampuchea Krom territory was given to Vietnam.

This work is important both nationally and internationally to show the actualities of Khmer Kampuchea Kroms’ culture, religion, tradition, geography, history and language. In particular, this will broadcast the national identity of a Khmer Krom people who are an aging population in the Southeast Asia. The world needs to clearly understand about Khmer Krom’s territory and people in the world map.

The objective of this work is to comprehensively disseminate the real religion, culture, civilization, tradition, geography, history and language of Khmer Krom to Khmer next generation.

This project was helped immensely because of a donation from the Ford Motor Company in a mount of $1,000.00 (one thousand dollars American) in December 2004.

We started to research for Khmer Kampuchea Krom’s history in December 2003 so that we would be able to compile and document our culture for our next generation to learn and understand Khmer Kroms’ religion, culture, civilization, tradition, geography, history and language that our forefathers and heroes who sacrificed their life to maintain up to date. Nevertheless, the Kampuchea Krom territory was illegally ceded to Vietnam by French colony on June 4, 1949, however we still continue to keep our tradition, religion and language...etc.

- Publication for next generation.

-To search for old documents which were lost during the war and then recompile the history.

-To search and recover events/developments that are not yet compiled / printed.

After publication, we have received much more supports from in and outside including Khmer citizens as well as foreigners. They are expecting to learn more clearly about the history and background of Khmer Krom.

-Printed 2,000 copies of the “ Khmer Kampuchea Krom Folktales ” part one (Khmer-English) for 1st edition in May 2004.

-Printed 2,000 copies of the “ Khmer Kampuchea Krom Folktales ” part two (only Khmer language) for 1st edition in April 2006.

-And completely researched following books:

-Khmer Kampuchea Krom’s heroes and Resistances (part one) Khmer language.

-Khmer Krom’s heroes and Resistances (part two) Khmer language.

-Khmer Pagodas in Kampuchea Krom (part one) Khmer language.

Khmer Pagodas in Kampuchea Krom (part two) Khmer language.

It should be noticed that the majority of books mentioned above are not yet published or printed for public because of we lack the budget for translation from Khmer into English and publication. We have plans to print 1,000 copies of each book.

Work is not yet finished in researching the following:

- Khmer Krom’s heroes and Resistances. (part three)

- Khmer Pagodas in Kampuchea Krom. (part three)

-The Khmer Kampuchea Krom Folktales. (part Three)

-History of Dr. Son Ngoc Thanh - Son Thai Nguyen and Khmer Serey .

We have plans to research the following stories:

- Khmer Krom’s heroes and Resistances (part four)

- Khmer Pagodas in Kampuchea Krom (part four)

- The Khmer Kampuchea Krom Folktales (part four)

We also plan to research for atrocities the Vietnamese people committed against the Khmer Krom from 15th to 21st centuries. This book is titled “1,001 cases of Vietnam’s worst crimes committed over Khmer Krom “people”.

Planning has started to research Khmer Krom geography, including names of villages, communes, and districts across the 21 municipalities/provinces, including the sizes of each province for compiling into a book and printing. This book is entitled “Names of Khmer Krom geography”.

We need support for our budget to:

-Support our colleagues to conduct on going research in Kampuchea Krom and offer some assistance.

-Provide money for activists who are searching there (Kampuchea Krom).

-Take pictures and video where Khmer Krom people are living.

-Translate documents and films from Khmer into English.

-To compile, print and publish.
